Each year the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association hosts an online contest to determine who will sing the national anthem at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo. The contest has thousands of entries each year but only two lucky people can be chosen to sing the national anthem at the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. The contest is a great way for the PRCA to connect with fans and let them have some control over the NFR.
The national anthem is a time-honored tradition at sporting events and other events in the United States. Being chosen to sing the national anthem is a huge honor and many talented singers have had the honor to sing that anthem at the National Finals Rodeo. The PRCA and Wrangler have a tough job in choosing the most talented singers that will do an incredible job in Las Vegas.
The contest starts on August 1st where singers all across the world submit a 3-minute video of themselves signing acapella. Contestants have until August 24th to submit their videos. After August 24th, a panel of judges chosen by Wrangler will determine the top 50 videos and then fans can vote from August 31st until September 13th.
After September 13th the top 30 contestants with the most votes will be judged by the panel of judges and cut down to 8 singers. Then fans vote on the top 8 contestants from September 26th until October 4th. The top two contestants with the most votes after the voting period ends are selected to perform at the NFR. If you win the contest you receive, flights to and from Las Vegas, two nights at a Vegas hotel, 2 tickets to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, and the performance of the national anthem.
The competition for the contest is heated as the grand prize has a retail value of $2,500 and the once in a lifetime memory of singing in front of a huge crowd in Las Vegas. The contest winners also get to watch the rodeo live in person the night that they perform.
“I was so excited,” Amanda Crane said. “I got a hold of her high school and they pulled all of the students in the lunch room and made the announcement and surprised Paige with the news that she had won.”
The local community support was one of the key reasons why Paige was able to win the contest. A Facebook post was shared over 400 times and garnered Paige a significant amount of votes which helped her win the contest. Paige will most likely be accompanied by her mother, Amanda, to Las Vegas as a legal guardian must be traveling with her since she is under the age of 18.
“Friends, family, the community and even strangers took the time to vote for Paige,” Amanda said. “The love and support was amazing.”
The PRCA has not decided which night she will be performing at the 2019 National Finals Rodeo. It will certainly be a night for Paige to remember for the rest of her life. Make sure you check out every single night of the 2019 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo to watch your favorite cowboys battle it out for the world title and a prize pool of $10 million. The 2019 National Finals Rodeo takes place from December 5th to the 14th and the CBS Sports Network will be airing every single night of the action.
